The ELISA-anti-α-LACTALBUMIN IgA, IgG kits are aimed at the semi-quantitative determination of IgA and IgG class antibodies against a cow milk protein – α-lactalbumin in human serum. Cow milk is one of the potential food allergens, i.e. protein-like substances triggering pathological conditions in oversensitive individuals – an abnormal response of the human immune system. Cow milk contains more than 20 various proteins; however, only a few of these are allergens (casein, ß-lactoglobulin and α-lactalbumin). The share of α-lactalbumin is 2-5%. Immunologists classify cow milk protein allergy as IgE-dependent and IgE-independent allergy; it is also known as cow milk intolerance. The body produces IgG, IgA and IgM antibodies.
